It should come as no surprise to find out that a lot of girls have imagined how their boyfriend will propose to them.
It’s a common fantasy: your handsome boyfriend down on one knee, smiling brightly, with your friends and family looking on, producing a beautiful ring, dropping that ring in the ocean…
Wait a minute.
This fantasy-gone-wrong became a reality for one unfortunate groom and his very patient bride, when 25-year-old North Carolina man accidentally dropped his precious engagement ring into open water.
Matthew Picca was in the midst of proposing to his long-term girlfriend, Kayla Harrity, in front of friends and family when, unexpectedly, the ring slipped from the box, through the cracks of the jetty they were standing on and into the depths of the sea.
““I turned around and he was getting down on one knee,” Kayla told WBTV. “As he opened the ring box, the ring fell out of the box and fell through the cracks on the deck and into the water. I didn’t even get to see it before it dropped.”
Kayla said she immediately started crying. Dozens of people saw it happen, and immediately came down to help the couple.
People brought flashlights and goggles, using them to help look under water for the missing ring.
An hour and a half later, someone finally found it.
“Everyone at the bar was cheering. All of a sudden, everyone was chanting ‘Propose again! Do it again!’,” Kayla said. “It was the best feeling in the world. My fiancé, soaking wet, smelling like salty, fishing water, proceeded to get down on one knee and put the beautiful ring on my finger!”
