The Pantone colour of 2017 Greenery 15-0343, was received with great excitement as it symbolises energy and new beginnings. One of the colours of the Nigerian flag, it is proof of nature renewing itself and a shade that lends itself to a design accent or highlight. In cake design, green can be used in a variety of ways. Firstly in lighter hues, it serves as a great canvas for metallic embellishments, sugar flowers and other elements. Secondly, is also used as sugar greenery in the form of sugar leaves, succulents, berries, buds and pods enabling sugar flowers to shine in a natural looking composition. For brides who are brave and love deeper shades of greenery at its purest, this secondary colour can be paired with reds and purples for that colourpop, creating a wow factor.

When used in ombre frills and ruffles on a cake, it brings a sense of freshness and liveliness as the colour fades from the darkest to lightest shade. At Elizabeth’s Cake Emporium, we think that the timelessness of Greenery as a colour and the many possibilities make it a classic for use in cake design for years to come.
