Just when we thought that we had kissed the retro fashion trend goodbye, it popped right back in our faces. Although it came with a few tweaks here and there, but it definitely showed us that it is here to stay!
Fashion itself is cyclical, some reoccur while some just fade away. Back then, grunge and hippie fashion were seemingly a fashion taboo. But of recent times, this has been seen to be a game changer. Maybe, it is because of the way it dwells on personal style and the availability of its fashion pieces. Alternative dressers simply put a thing or two from fashion items around them, although most of them are simply a mash-up of the early 70s and 90s. Many fashion stylists are portraying the use of alternative fashion as a necessity in making a fashion statement.
This is because it seems to be daring and different from the norms in the fashion world. Its rebirth has given more room for creativity in personal style. There are no rules when it comes to such fashion and that seems to be its uniqueness. As long as two, or more fashion pieces look good together when mashed up, it turns out in becoming a totally whole new look.
Take for instance, in the early 90s, wearing a native gown with a jeans jacket was presumed odd and not appealing, but with the rebirth of alternative fashion, it is seen to be accepted with a few changes here and there. I do recall when I was younger, putting on an Ankara piece with any form of sneakers other than shoes were termed ‘local’. but in recent times, that seems to be an easy look being worn by most ladies.
But one has to wonder, is this trend here to stay?
