Our Love Story
Joel and I meeting was just the Almighty God’s doing. No one orchestrated it but God himself. His timing was perfect! So I was planning on visiting my relatives in Nigeria for the New Year after ten years from my last visitation with my family in 2002. I planned on passing through Abuja to visit one of my uncles who is lives there. One day, I was speaking with a close family friend, about my plans of going to Nigeria and how I would love to see Abuja while I am there for a few days. That was when he suggested calling his cousin Joel, who was based in Abuja to help show me around. The first time I spoke with Joel over the phone and heard his voice, he sounded to me as if he had been based in the UK because of his accent, so I asked him if he had been to UK and he just laughed, as if I was pulling his legs. And that started the first of many conversations we would have before my actual visitation to Nigeria. I could tell he was kind of interested in meeting and getting to know me, but I on the other hand had no interest, other than to get a free tour of Abuja……lol!!
Fast forward, I arrived in Abuja Dec 28, 2012 and that every night Joel came to see me at my uncle’s hotel, Havista. He insisted on taking me out, although I was very exhausted from my long flight, I said why not, so we went to club Cubana and there we danced the night away, because the one thing I love to do is dance. Through out my trip we kept in touch, even when I was in Benin visiting my relatives. Joel surprised me when he decided to fly my cousin and I back to Abuja for a weekend, so he could spend more time with me. And as I spend more time with Joel, I started to develop an interest in him also, but in the back of my mind I was wondering how would this work because I am based in the US and he is based in Abuja. But Joel is such an easy going person, calm, kind, caring and just fun to be around with. Joel captured my heart with his patience, persistence, and unconditional love during our two years long distance relationship. It wasn’t easy but it was worth it. I thank God for his faithful love and blessings upon our lives.
The proposal was a surprise and came so fast being that we had only been dating for a year. It took place during a vacation trip to Dubai. Joel proposed to me in our HOTEL ROOM right before we went out for dinner. It was a special moment only the two of us shared.
WDN wishes Uyi & Joel a happy and blessed life together forever!
