First of all, tell us a bit about yourself & why you love fashion?
My name is Chinyenum Amadi, but I am known as ChiChi. I am from Delta State, Nigeria. I am a wife and a mother to my little prince Jovani Amadi. From a very young age, I’ve always loved dressing up. On my 5th birthday, I was all dolled up with makeup and heels. I lived with my aunt and adopted her lifestyle of fabulosity. She always told me that fashion was the way forward. As I grew up , my sense of fashion grew even bigger and although I do not believe that anyone is defined by their fashion, I do believe that it adds a touch to one’s personality.
How did you start your style blog and where did the name come from?
I started working on my blog the fall of last year, however, prior to that, I spent a lot of time conducting research on how to be a fashion blogger as well as how to separate myself from other fashion bloggers. For years, people had been asking me to start a fashion blog but I was reluctant. After speaking with my husband, he simply said: “Honey why don’t you give it a try, you just might fall in love with blogging”. I expressed my apprehension as I was unsure if I would be able to deal with the hassle that came with managing a fashion blog and trying to keep up with it. After much thought and procrastination, I decided to delve in full speed and I must say, my husband was right. The blog name is derived from the first four letters of my first name and the last three letters of my last name incorporated with the word “style” hence the ChicAmastyle.
How would you describe your style?
My fashion style is more everyday wears. I don’t necessarily follow fashion trends. I like to add my own twist and create an entirely new style. I love denim! in fact, If I could wear denim for an entire week, I would but unfortunately, it doesn’t fit every occasion. My style is simple yet chic. I lean more towards the “street look”, but I also embrace my Nigerian attires wholeheartedly. I absolutely love cultural wears.
What is this season’s trend that fits your style the best?
The off-shoulder style is my thing for this season. It’s something that could be worn year round. When combined with a floral print pattern, it’s gold!!!
What are the trends you wouldn’t embrace?
This is a tricky one because I cannot isolate any specific trend. Everyone has a fashion sense that is unique to them, so I say whatever makes one feel comfortable, they should embrace it.
If you would choose an outfit for a red carpet event, what would it look like, and what designer would you think of?
Red carpet! Red carpet! Red carpet! There are so many designers that I love but right now I am really crushing on Michael Costello from Project Runway Season 8. He has dressed celebrities from Beyonce to Lady Gaga. He is a bit under people’s radar but believe me, his style is simply amazing and If I were to be invited to a Red Carpet event today, he would be my go to person without a second thought. In terms of the outfit, I will definitely brainstorm a vision which would probably be a nice detailed dress with pearls or studs, but from what I have seen from his work, I would trust him completely to design a dress specifically for me!. He is amazing.
What are your fashion pet peeves?
For starters, I do not like visible panty lines; that is a fashion faux Pa. I also do not like when bra straps are sticking out or when clothes are worn out of season. But, the biggest one for me would be when people wear pyjamas outside the comfort of their home, it’s just the most horrible look ever. I do understand the occasional emergency run to the grocery store but outside a grocery store, this abomination should never occur lol. Another fashion pet peeve would be when people repeat the same outfits week after week without putting a twist to it. It’s okay to not want to have a closet full of clothes but it’s also not a sin to mix it up a bit. Try something new and fun to create a fresh new look. We look forward to hearing from you.
